Against the Odds: Big Hands From a Big Comeback
By durrrr Challenge | Posted on June 15, 2009
How does one dig themselves out of a $400,000 hole in a span of three hours you ask? In addition to playing some solid PLO, durrrr also happened to be the beneficiary of some of the biggest pots of the day.
a result, he ended up with an hourly rate of $100K or so. Not too shabby for one night’s work.
Let’s take a closer look at two of the biggest pots of the session and break down where each player stood in this edition of Against the Odds:
Biggest Pot of the Session
Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha
durrrr (BB): $245162.00
Patrik Antonius (BTN/SB): $114795.50
Pre Flop: ($600.00)
Patrik Antonius raises to $1200, durrrr raises to $3600, Patrik Antonius raises to $10800, durrrr calls $7200
Flop: ($21600.00)

durrrr checks, Patrik Antonius bets $16400, durrrr raises to $70800, Patrik Antonius calls $54400
Turn: ($163200.00)
durrrr bets $163200, Patrik Antonius calls $33195.50 all in
River: ($229591.00)
(2 players – 1 is all in)
Final Pot: $229591.00
durrrr shows
(a full house, Jacks full of Twos)
Patrik Antonius shows
(a flush, Ace high)
durrrr wins $229590.50
durrrr‘s holdings preflop have Patrik’s double-suited semi-connected hand edged by a 60-40 margin. On the flop we have a set versus a flush and straight draw —a scenario we’ve seen more than once over the course of the Challenge. The set of jacks is going to hold 60% of the time, so not much has changed odds-wise after the flop. Durrrr’s raise after Patrik’s lead is enough to price him in to make the call.
With over half of his stack invested in the pot, Antonius calls durrrr‘s pot-sized bet on the turn after he makes his ten-high flush. The
gives Patrik the 4 to 1 advantage in the hand, but durrrr is able to pair the board on the river to take down the biggest of the session and take a big step towards pulling back to even with his opponent.
durrrr Hits Another Straight
Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha
durrrr (BTN/SB): $67197.50
Patrik Antonius (BB): $92798.00
Pre Flop: ($600.00)
durrrr raises to $1200, Patrik Antonius raises to $3600, durrrr calls $2400
Flop: ($7200.00)

Patrik Antonius checks, durrrr bets $4800, Patrik Antonius raises to $21600, durrrr calls $16800
Turn: ($50400.00)
Patrik Antonius bets $50400, durrrr calls $41997.50 all in
River: ($134395.00)
(2 players – 1 is all in)
Final Pot: $134395.00
durrrr shows
(a straight, Queen high)
Patrik Antonius shows
(three of a kind, Eights)
durrrr wins $134394.50
The double suited hands weren’t as promising as Patrik likely hoped over the course of this most recent session. Once again Antonius is dealt a double suited holding, but this time he only holds the small 53% edge over durrrr‘s hand. After the flop, essentially nothing has changed in terms of the odds. Patrik’s pair and nut flush draw hold the miniscule edge over durrrr‘s bigger pair and double-gutted straight draw.
The jack on the turn gives Dwan a substantial 78% lead by making his queen-high straight and, since he is holding two of the spades Patrik needs to make his flush, Patrik is 2.5% less likely to take the pot. With no spade on the river, the straight holds to send another big pot durrrr‘s way.
