There have been two micro sessions played between Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan in the past couple of days. We’re hoping this is a precursor to a long session, but for now, we will take a look at two of the more significant pots played during the 364-hand session on Monday. Yet again, we saw Dwan increase his lead.

Patrik Wins With A Boat

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha

durrrr (BTN/SB): $92395.50
Patrik Antonius wins $184790.50

Analysis

Both players started out with pretty strong hands pre-flop. Durrrr made a raise and Antonius made a customary 3bet, which has been standard issue during the challenge. Not standard were a 4bet by Dwan and a 5bet by Antonius. This is atypical for both players, who have usually just called, even with their monster hands. The 6-7-Q two-club flop gave Antonius an open-ended straight draw and an overpair with his kings. Meanwhile, Dwan had the same straight draw plus a connected card for even more possibilities. With $64,800 in the middle, Antonius made a pot-sized bet to put Dwan all-in, which he called. At this point in the hand, Antonius was ahead 45% to 26%, with a 27% chance to chop the hand. A couple of sixes hit the board on the turn and river, giving Antonius the winning full house and a key $184,790 pot that minimized his losses during the session.

Dwan Makes A Flush

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha

durrrr (BTN/SB): $229190.50
Patrik Antonius (BB): $74798.50

Pre Flop: ($600.00)

Flop: ($149597.00) Qc

Turn: ($149597.00) 9d

River: ($149597.00) 5c

Final Pot: $149597
durrrr shows (a flush, Ace high)
Patrik Antonius shows (three of a kind, Queens)
durrrr wins $149596.50

Analysis

In a rarity for the Durrrr Challenge, both players went all-in pre-flop. It’s hard not to blame either player given their hole cards. Dwan had 9-T-A-A double-suited, while Antonius couldn’t have shown up better with Q-Q-K-K. In a heads-up Omaha game, both of these hands are monsters, although huge drawing hands would have matched up well to them. At this point, though, Dwan was ahead 71% to 29%. Nevertheless, the 4-7-Q flop gave Antonius top set, while Durrrr had an overpair and the nut flush draw. The nine on the turn paired up Durrrr, but didn’t increase his outs. The five of clubs on the river filled the flush for Dwan, who reeled in a huge $149,596 pot.

After their brief and pointless four-hand melee the other night, durrrr and Patrik Antonius played a more substantial session early this morning, logging 364 hands over the course of an hour. In what’s becoming a steadily less interesting contest – no doubt in part due to the sparse action – Dwan has built an impressive lead over Patrik, almost to the point where he can simply play defensive poker and cruise to victory. Dwan’s success continued in this most recent session as he managed to take $342K off of Antonius, pushing his lead to $1.75 million.

It doesn’t seem like a large sum given the sizes of the pots they play, but in reality, $1.75 is a lot of money, and Antonius has to feel like he’s in a massive hole. Remember, if the contest were to end today, he’d owe Tom an additional $500K. Ouch.

Here are a few of the biggest pots from this morning’s action:

Tom “durrrr” Dwan lasted all of one level in the $10,000 buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) L.A. Poker Classic. In a truly Dwan-like strategy, the youngster didn’t show up for the entirety of Day 1. By the start of Day 2, his stack had been blinded down to 15,000. The WPT claimed his absence was caused by a bevy of high-stakes online cash games along with the fact that Dwan “couldn’t get a flight to L.A. in time to catch any of Day 1.”

According to Yahoo Maps, the driving distance between Las Vegas and Los Angeles is just 270 miles, a short four-hour trip across the desert. Dwan, however, elected to fly and turned out for Day 2 in the middle of the second level of play, the sixth overall. At that point, blinds were 100-200 with an ante of 50 and Dwan’s stack had plummeted to 25 big blinds. The WPT reported Dwan’s arrival at 1:13pm PT.

By 2:18pm PT, or one hour later, Dwan had bitten the dust during Level 7. Down to a scant 4,600 in chips, Dwan shoved with A-7 of spades and the player in the small blind re-shoved with pocket nines. The flop came 2-3-4, giving Dwan a wheel draw, but a running 10-6 sent him back to the airport searching for a return flight to Las Vegas. Also employing the strategy of showing up on Day 2 was Antonio Esfandiari, who likewise did not survive to see Day 2.

One activity we know Dwan didn’t partake in along the way was the Durrrr Challenge, which has seen no action since February 13th. Instead, Dwan battled online against CardRunners instructors Brian Townsend and Cole South on Thursday night, earning a combined $543,000. The winner of the WPT L.A. Poker Classic pockets $1.8 million, with the top two finishers banking at least $1 million.

It’s time to sharpen your Omaha skills with DurrrrChallenge.com. In the largest pot of the February 13th micro session of the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge, no hole cards were exposed. Therefore, we thought it was appropriate to play the hand out with PokerXFactor instructor Chris “Fox” Wallace and see what Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius may have held. Buckle up; it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Seat 1: durrrr ($41,398.50)
Seat 2: Patrik Antonius ($78,598.50)
Patrik Antonius posts the big blind of $400

PRE-FLOP
durrrr raises to $1,200
Patrik Antonius calls $800

Chris Wallace: After looking at a ton of Durrrr Challenge hands, I know these guys are very aggressive pre-flop. We learn nothing about Durrrr’s hand from a single pre-flop raise, but we can guess that Antonius doesn’t have a monster here or he would be re-raising. Because Durrrr only has 100 big blinds, as short as stacks get in these games, re-raising with a big hand would be mandatory for Antonius. The value of deception wouldn’t be worth nearly as much as the value of getting Durrrr to commit at least 10% of his stack.

FLOP: 10c-Jc-4s
Patrik Antonius bets $2,400
durrrr calls $2,400

Chris Wallace: Antonius bet doesn’t mean that much. He could still have a wide range here and would bet any draw and most of his made hands. A bluff is unlikely because he can usually expect to be called with this board texture, but it’s certainly possible.

TURN: 2s
Patrik Antonius bets $7,200
durrrr calls $7,200

Chris Wallace: I’m sure that Antonius has a hand. He knows that Durrrr can get it all-in with a wide range of hands, so if he bluffs twice at a board like this, he is not afraid of having to fold to a re-raise. With most players, we would assume that Antonius has a made hand and Durrrr has a big draw, but with these guys, you can never be sure.

RIVER – 9d
Patrik Antonius bets $21,600
durrrr raises to $30,598.50, and is all in
Patrik Antonius folds

Chris Wallace: I have no idea what happened here. Antonius bets and then folds on the river when he’s getting tremendous odds on a call. This Challenge gets a little stranger every time I read about a hand. This could easily be a misclick or Antonius not noticing stack sizes.

Remember that four tables of heads-up Omaha is a lot of thinking and a lot of hands popping up at you demanding your attention. Playing that many hands can throw anybody into autopilot and, when that happens, you can make bad plays accidentally. This can’t be an intentional bet/fold on the river by Antonius; there is something else we don’t understand in this hand. My guess is that Antonius would be cursing loudly if he saw how small the re-raise was that caused him to fold.

Analysis

In the pre-flop round, we saw Antonius 3bet and durrrr flat it in position on the button. From there, the hand was played remarkably passively by both players. The flop and turn check-downs by both players was something we haven’t seen much of during this challenge. Clearly, the monotone flop scared both players from making the pot too big. The river Jack upgraded Dwan to a full house of Jacks full of Nines, which beat any flopped flush Antonius might have had. Dwan didn’t quite bet the full pot, but Antonius called for a relatively cheap showdown in Durrrr Challenge terms. Although we don’t know what Antonius had, it’s very likely he held at least had two pair and probably turned a straight or rivered an inferior boat.

durrrr wins the pot ($17,599.50) with two pair, Eights and Sevens

Analysis

Antonius had the better hand with 3-K-A-T single-suited to the Ace of clubs, while Durrrr held 6-7-8-K suited to clubs as well. It’s not to say this was a huge edge by Antonius, who also had to play the hand out of position on the big blind. Like the last hand, Antonius 3bet and Dwan flatted. The flop of J-2-7 with two hearts didn’t do a thing for Antonius and gave Dwan second pair. Surprisingly, it was this flop that had action, with Antonius leading out with a pure bluff bet. Dwan once again flatted behind and the turn brought an eight of hearts, which filled any flush draws. It seems like both players were wary the other had the draw filled and decided to check it to the river. The Ace on the river improved Antonius to just top pair, which is a weak showdown hand in Omaha, even heads-up. The two, without much confidence in their hands, checked it down and Antonius won a modest pot.

In the February 9th installment of the Durrrr Challenge, we saw Tom Dwan check-call every street in one hand, ultimately making a full house on the river to trump Patrik Antonius’ lowly pair of deuces. DurrrrChallenge.com sat down with PokerXFactor instructor and Omaha expert Chris “Fox” Wallace to get his take on what went down.

Pre-flop, Dwan sat with a $137,000 stack, while Antonius owned a little over $103,000. Wallace noted, “Notice they are pretty deep-stacked here. That changes things a little bit and makes people less aggressive when the pot size might get out of hand.”

Pre-flop, Antonius raised to $1,200 with and Dwan made it $3,600 with As. Antonius made the call.

Chris Wallace: Antonius has a very speculative “surprise hand” and doesn’t want the pot to get too big yet, so he just calls the re-raise. That’s not surprising. He’s playing the small run like you would play a small pair in Hold’em: wait and see if you hit it before you put a lot of money in the middle.

The flop came and Dwan check-called a bet of $6,000 from Antonius.

Chris Wallace: Antonius flops a big wrap straight draw and bets it. He has a ton of outs and I would bet too. Durrrr’s call here is not smart. No matter how good people think he is, this is just an idiot call. If he wants to bluff-raise, then fine, but just calling here could not be a worse play. This is equivalent to calling with undercards to the board on the flop in Hold’em. He has nothing.

The turn was the deuce of hearts, improving Dwan to trips. The youngster once again check-called a bet, this time $14,800.

Chris Wallace: Durrrr gets very lucky and trips up and I have no idea why he continued to play it slow except maybe to mix it up. He can’t really be afraid of a full house already – not in heads-up play – and he needs to bet now because there are lots of draws out there. He was probably hoping to get Antonius to bet again on the river with a busted draw while controlling the pot size if a draw comes in or he runs into a boat.

Sometimes that is a smart way to play a hand like this, equivalent to checking top pair, top kicker on a safe turn card when you think your opponent either has nothing or a set in Hold’em. If your read is good, then you call a bet on the river and win a bigger pot than you would have against a junk hand because they will bluff at it, while losing a smaller pot than you would have to a big hand because you checked through a street and kept the pot small.

The river was the king of spades, giving Dwan a boat. He check-called a $48,800 bet from the Fin.

Chris Wallace: Durrrr fills up and only calls here. I don’t know what hand he is afraid of and I understand that bottom full house is not the nuts in Omaha, but it is very strong on this board with this action in a heads-up pot. He has to be afraid of a bigger boat; there is no other possible reason for just calling, but I have no idea what read would make him so worried about that when it’s so unlikely. Maybe he had a bad timing tell or he misclicked, but this has to be a mistake. He can beat everything except sixes, tens, and kings; the latter is very unlikely given the pre-flop action.

It’s hard to imagine, but this heads up matchup between Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius is now over a year old. While we wonder what will actually happen if/when this portion of the challenge ever ends (remember there are guys waiting for a crack at Dwan after Antonius) lets take a look at the latest session recorded. At this point, Dwan is up almost $1.4 million and it would take a really hot run for Antonius to get this thing close. Let’s analyze two hands from the session played on February 9th to see how things went down.

Patrik Gets Some Help on the River

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha

durrrr (BTN/SB): $75389.00
Patrik Antonius (BB): $198788.50

Pre Flop: ($600.00)
durrrr raises to $1200, Patrik Antonius raises to $3600, durrrr calls $2400

Flop: ($7200.00)
Patrik Antonius checks, durrrr bets $4800, Patrik Antonius calls $4800

Turn: ($150778.00)
Patrik Antonius checks, durrrr bets $16800, Patrik Antonius raises to $67200, durrrr calls $66989 all in

River: ($150778.00) (2 players – 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $150778.00
Patrik Antonius shows (a straight, seven high)
Patrik Antonius wins $150,778.50

Analysis

Pre-flop, Dwan acted first on the button with 3-Q-3-Q. He made a raise and Antonius responded with a 3bet holding 3-4-6-7 double-suited to hearts and spades. Dwan called and the two saw a flop of 7-Q-4. This flop, short of hitting quads, was as good as Dwan could hope for, top set. Antonius flopped bottom two pair plus a straight draw and decided to check-call. The jack of hearts on the turn didn’t improve either player, but Antonius decided to go for a check-raise shove semi-bluff, which was a no brainer for Dwan to call. At this point in the hand, Dwan held a commanding 90% to 10% lead with a $150,778 pot at stake. Historically we’ve seen Dwan run streaky throughout the challenge, the five of spades spiked the straight for Antonius on the river.

durrrr Hits a Full House on the River

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omahahahahaha

durrrr (BB): $136785.00
Patrik Antonius (BTN/SB): $103199.50

Pre Flop: ($600.00)
Patrik Antonius raises to $1200, durrrr raises to $3600, Patrik Antonius calls $2400

Flop: ($7200.00) 10s
durrrr checks, Patrik Antonius bets $6000, durrrr calls $6000

Turn: ($19200.00)
durrrr checks, Patrik Antonius bets $14800, durrrr calls $14800

River: ($48800.00)
durrrr checks, Patrik Antonius bets $48800, durrrr calls $48800

Final Pot: $146400.00
durrrr shows (a full house, twos full of Kings)
Patrik Antonius shows (a pair of Twos)
durrrr wins $146,400.50

Analysis

This time, Antonius was on the button and raised with his 3-4-5-7 rainbow drawing hand. Dwan 3bet with a great heads-up Omaha hand of K-Q-2-A suited to spades (with the ace) and Antonius called. The flop came T-2-6 with two diamonds, which gave Antonius a straight draw and Durrrr bottom pair. This time, it was Dwan who check-called the flop, but the two on the turn gave trips for Dwan, who decided to mix it up and check-riase. Antonius didn’t budge, for reasons we can’t really fathom; drawing to a straight on a paired board in Omaha isn’t usually the kind of thing that’s encouraged. However, when playing heads-up against such an aggressive opponent, clearly some meta-game played into his decision making. The king on the river nailed Dwan, giving him the boat. This is really where Dwan made a decent pot a great pot by knowing his opponent. Instead of value betting here, he remained patient and checked, apparently knowing that Antonius would fire a third bullet. In the end, Antonius fired a pot-sized river bet and Dwan’s patience was rewarded to the tune of $146,400.

If you had a chance to check out ESPN’s coverage of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe Main Event over the weekend, then you saw Viktor Blom, the man many purport to be the legendary Isildur1, put in a failed bluff against Ian Munns. Our two favorite Durrrr Challenge participants, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius, may have tangled with Blom in the past on the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker if indeed he is Isildur1.

In the buzz-worthy hand that unfolded at the Casino at the Empire in London, Blom raised to 3,000 pre-flop with K-2 of diamonds and Munns made it 9,000 with A-7. Blom called and the flop came A-A-3, giving Munns trips and Blom squadoosh. Blom checked, Munns bet 9,000, Blom raised it up to 58,000, Munns bumped it to 116,000, and, rather than folding, Blom shoved all-in for 231,000. Munns tanked, perhaps thinking that Blom’s kicker was higher than a seven, elected to call anyway and was a 96% favorite to take down the pot. A ten on the turn left Blom drawing dead on the river.

Blom, a young tyke, showed off the hyper-aggression that we’ve come to expect from Isildur1 and in the Durrrr Challenge. Munns became the chip leader in London as a result of inheriting Blom’s stack and the rest of the table, which included Antonio Esfandiari, had a good laugh at Blom’s expense. Blom, who remained calm throughout the entire ordeal, quietly got up and departed the table, barely saying a word to Munns or any of his opponents.

Online, Dwan has donated $5.5 million lifetime to Isildur1’s bankroll, while Antonius has taken $2.9 million off the mystery Swede. Here’s how Isildur1’s top five “Best Friends” and “Worst Enemies” stack up, based on the amount of money won or lost from each player:

Best Friends:
1. durrrr: +$5,469,543.90
2. David Benyamine: +$560,541.00
3. jungleman12: +$478,043.95
4. Haseeb Qureshi: +$452,688.75
5. UgotaBanana: +$293,897.75

Worst Enemies:
1. Brian Hastings: ($3,841,151.95)
2. Phil Ivey: ($2,910,133.50)
3. Patrik Antonius: ($2,181,212.00)
4. Brian Townsend: ($1,571,392.75)
5. Cole South: ($210,186.50)

Blom told Bluff Europe in December that he is not the man of the hour. Stay tuned to DurrrrChallenge.com for the latest high-stakes poker news.
