Sammy George Takes Up Tom Dwan on Million Dollar Challenge

By durrrr Challenge | Posted on August 16, 2009

Next month, Sammy “Any Two” George will face off against Tom “durrrr” Dwan in a live version of the Million Dollar Challenge to be held in London. Currently, Dwan is battling Patrik Antonius online in the Durrrr Challenge, although there hasn’t been any action in two months.

George is a London cash game veteran who has achieved success against the top European players in competitions like Poker Million. George commented on Dwan’s current competition in the Million Dollar Challenge in an article that appeared on Matchroom Sport’s website: “My message to Tom is – paper cannot wrap up a fire. With Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius, you are talking about guys I rate quite highly. Guys like Durrrr to me are normal, you know, they’re nothing special.” Ivey and David Benyamine were also scheduled to compete against Dwan online, although the youngster’s match against Antonius is just 40% of the way through after starting six months ago. Currently, Dwan holds a $726,000 edge.

A total of 500 hands will be played between George and Dwan in London next month, with blinds at $500/$1,000. No player is allowed to leave the tables until 500 hands have been completed or someone is broke, whichever comes first. Dwan is scheduled to play four of poker’s elite in London, but no indication of when or where the festivities will occur has been given. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe kicks off on September 18th from the Casino at the Empire.

Haha! Sammy George will get eaten alive by Durrrrr… For one thing Sammy is in no way, shape or form used to playing that high whereas Durrrrr plays high stakes like that on a daily basis!

Sammy has achieved success against top European Players? I don’t think so… As someone who’s seen Sammy play at the infamous Vic Cardroom in London, he is hopeless! I literally know nobody that rates him highly – Yes, he can be dangerous, because he has money and is pretty fearless… But that could be said for anyone!

In a high stakes, deep stack poker game he has no chance/clue what he’s getting himself in for… Please tell me this is a joke? A mediocre £10/£25 player from London is going to take on pretty much the most talked about High Stakes player in the world?

    Lamb to the slaughter?

sammy has obviously got backing, because, not only does he rate himself, but others do too. durrr is a beatable player (antonius and ivey are not beatable in the long run), and as long as sammy doesnt tilt like he can sometimes…. then dont be surprised if sammy scrapes through.

dont rule out the importance of a home ground advantage, both in the location and live setting.

Only seen Sammy play once and was not overly impressed myself either. Unless the cards are overly kind to Sammy or he gets lucky in a Big pot or we get AA V KK I can only see Durr taking this down.

Of course being a Londener I will be chering for Sammy all the way.

either way sammy gains from the publicity and exposure and i cant think of any other brits that have got the brass to make the big moves and calls, so as another londoner i am happy to have sammy fly the flag.

    Durrrr’s “nothing special”?
Even though Luke Schwartz is an absolute asshole and a complete garbage of a human being, I have to give him credit for being an excellent NLHE player, perhaps (although very unlikely) capable of surviving a confrontation with Dwan. But Sammy? Hahaha, seriously…what a joke! He probably got carried away by Schwartz’s “complete lack of respect” attitude and forgot to check his own talent reservoir for realistic backing up for what he was saying. I’d much rather see a live confrontation with PA, Ivey, OMG or any other true poker phenom, like the one between Durrrr and PA at the Aussie Millions, where Dwan proved that while being the most aggressive player in the world, he could make some of the sickest laydowns against another extremely aggressive player, at PLO, mind you. Anyway, can’t wait to see this talentless idiot get rammed in the @ss by a legend in the making. The following match against Schwartz should at least provide some excitment…
