They’re Baaaaack!

The poker gods must have answered our prayers because finally Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius put in a session after a month-long hibernation. In the interim, the next opponent for the Durrrr Challenge was already revealed, Brian Townsend, without this one being over. In any event, here’s some insight into a couple of hands.

Analysis

Dwan definitely had an interesting starting hand here with Q-4-J-T double-suited, while Antonius had a dull 2-8-A-8 suited to spades. Antonius led out and then flatted the 3bet from durrrr, which has been standard to date. The flop of Q-4-8 gave Antonius middle set, while Dwan had a gutshot to a nine and top pair. Durrrr donk bet out on the flop for a little more than half of the pot and was instantly raised by Antonius to full pot. At that point, Dwan made the mistake of getting it in for Antonius’ last $35,591 as a major dog, 71% to 29%. With the seven and the two on the turn and river, respectively, Antonius salvaged one major pot during the night. We’re not sure if Dwan figured he was simply running good and making a hero move here against a struggling Antonius, but either way, Antonius got his money in really well in this spot.

Analysis

We don’t know what Antonius had here, but we do know that durrrr showed A-Q-5-A suited to spades for a solid starting hand in heads-up PLO. Dwan made the pre-flop 3bet, which was called, and then fired away on the 9-4-2 flop with two spades. Dwan most likely, given his aggressive nature during the challenge, would have shipped it in with this flop if Antonius had raised. The way it was, Antonius called and the turn brought a seven of clubs, which was a safe card for Dwan. This time, Dwan check-raised, which was oddly enough called. We can only guess at this point that Antonius might have had pocket kings, a king-high flush draw, or turned a straight draw. Either way, the board pairing on the river with the nine with no filled flush didn’t help him.
