Analysis from June 19th Hands

The Durrrr Challenge has featured timed ultra-aggression from Tom Dwan. Regardless of the “proper move,” Dwan consistently got his money in prior to the June sessions as a dog with Antonius either holding blockers to his outs or flopping the nuts. The good news for Dwan is that this has led Antonius to believe that Dwan has no boundaries to his seemingly reckless aggression, which has always been made with some sort of draw. Now that Dwan is hitting outs and flopping well, the aggression that put him in a $450,000 hole has rocketed him to a lead in excess of $700,000. Let’s examine two such hands where Dwan hit a big out or flashed aggression that paid off in a big pot.

Hand Analysis

Pre-flop, durrrr is on the button and made a raise with 4-K-8-J single-suited, a modest starting hand in Omaha. Antonius held A-K-Q-J single-suited, a powerhouse drawing hand, and made an easy 3bet that was called by durrrr. The flop showed 7-J-J, which meant that both players held three of a kind. Both players couldn’t be too scared of what the other might have at this point since they both flopped trips with nine outs twice to a boat. At this point, it was Antonius who held a 67-24% lead (8.9% of the hands would actually end up in a tie) and put in an almost pot-sized bet of $6,000, which was immediately called. The eight of hearts came, which spiked one of Dwan’s outs to a boat. Antonius bet $16,000 into Dwan, who immediately raised pot. Antonius shoved and when durrrr called, there was $282,781 in the pot and had a whopping 80-15% lead in the action. Needing an A, K, or Q to fall on the river (A or Q for the win, K for the chop), Antonius came up short with the nine of hearts. It seemed like a cooler was destined for one of the two on this hand after they both flopped trips and were drawing to boats.

Hand Analysis

Pre-flop, we see Antonius hold one of the true monsters of Pot Limit Omaha, a single-suited A-K-K-A to diamonds, and durrrr holding a decent drawing hand in 7-10-9-6 single-suited to hearts. The pre-flop action saw a very rare 5bet from Antonius, who was happy getting as much money in pre-flop as possible. For Dwan, he liked his suited drawing hand and didn’t want Antonius to bully him around. Most Omaha players know, when you have a good rundown, you’re almost never worse than a 60-40 dog. The flop of 4-3-5 delivered the nut hand for Dwan and a crushing 89-11% lead. Antonius immediately bet pot on the flop in a vain attempt to get Dwan off any possible draws. Dwan, whose breakneck aggression pays off in this hand, immediately pushed all-in and was called by Antonius, who is used to seeing the young player push with any of his possible draws. The turn and river brought no help to Antonius and durrrr took down a $256,118 pot.
