Analysis from March 26th Session

Early last Thursday morning, the guys got together for another 80-minute session with Patrik Antonius retaining the lead. The two combatants have officially logged 7,068 hands out of the 50,000 required for the Challenge, so we’re not even 20% of the way through. Let’s take a look at hands from this early morning session.

Hand Analysis

Like we have seen for what seems like 99% of hands, things started off with the button raising and the big blind re-raising. Taking a look at the hole cards, Durrrr held A-6-K-8 double suited, while Antonius held 8-9-7-7 single suited. Neither hand really dominated the other outside of Durrrr having the better hearts. The flop is all action with Q-T-J (two hearts) and we see a potential disaster for Antonius play out as both players hit a straight and have a flush draw. Durrrr had the best of it with a flopped nut straight and King-high flush redraw for an absolutely dominating position, while Antonius flopped the donkey end of the straight with a worse of flush redraw. The boys got it in with Durrrr having a 96% to 4% edge. The turn and river didn’t provide miracle outs for Antonius and Dwan took down a $79,594 pot. This hand really wasn’t about Dwan outplaying Antonius so much as it was a cooler flop for Antonius, who had to think he was ahead at the time.

Another Cooler Goes durrrr’s Way

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 2 players

Patrik Antonius (BB): $37450.00

durrrr shows Qc Qs Kh 7s (three of a kind, Queens)
Patrik Antonius shows Ts 6c 6s Tc (three of a kind, Sixes)
durrrr wins $74899.50

Hand Analysis

Durrrr was dealt Q-Q-K-7 single suited for a decent hand pre-flop, while Antonius held T-6-6-T double suited for yet another speculative holding. The standard pre-flop action occurred and the flop came 7-6-Q, which spelled disaster for Antonius yet again, as both players flopped a set. Clearly, when heads-up in Pot Limit Omaha and you flop a set, you have to figure you’re ahead with a rainbow flop, which was exactly the thinking of both players as they got it in. Antonius was an 89% to 11% dog and didn’t improve. There wasn’t much Antonius could have done differently; he hit the flop and got coolered.
