We love to keep track of our favorite poker players, particularly Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates, who continue to sporadically compete in the Durrrr Challenge on Full Tilt Poker. This week, we found out where “Jungleman12” will be spending a portion of his September. Cates is registered for a paradisiacal poker brawl at the Battle of Malta.
No word on whether Tom “durrrr” Dwan will be gracing the coastal glory of St. Julian, but Daniel has confirmed his imminent participation in the second annual running of the Main Event, which boasts an elevated guaranteed prize pool of €200k. Other big-name poker pros who are already on the docket include Johannes Strassman and Andreas Hoivold.
On the tides of last year’s inaugural Battle of Malta being so immensely successful, the organizers of this year’s event have heightened the guaranteed prize pool to €200,000, while maintaining the comparably low buy-in of €550. They’ve also added a €10k ‘Second Chance’ guaranteed event to the roster, and will be arranging exclusive, high-end parties, adding to the enrapturing ambiance of this Mediterranean utopia.
Kara Scott, the captivating personality of ESPN’s WSOP coverage, will be returning as the host of the Battle of Malta. The event is being sponsored by PokerListings, which will also provide live video coverage of the 4-day tournament series.
The Battle of Malta is slated to take place between September 26-29, 2013 at the Portomaso Casino in St. Julian, Malta. As the sponsor of the event, PokerListings is offering an exclusive package for €1,400, which includes the €550 buy-in to the Main Event, four nights at the 5-star Corinthia Hotel of Malta, daily breakfast and buffet lunch at the Portomaso Casino, admittance to the complimentary cocktail party and the official BoM VIP party as part of the opening ceremonies, shuttle service to/from the airport and access to exclusive giveaways and side events.
Alternatively, online poker players can qualify for an even more valuable package, for a lot less money. Prize packages to the Battle of Malta are being propounded exclusively at 888Poker. They started back in March, and will continue to be held every other week through September 7, 2013. The buy-in for each Battle of Malta Qualifier is $30+$3, but if you’re new to the online poker room, you can get one free entry by using the bonus code “PLBOM” on your first deposit. If you’re already a member of 888Poker, making a deposit of $20+ with the bonus code “BOM888” will also grant one free entry.
Each prize package is worth $2,400, and includes the €550 Main Event buy-in, four nights at the 5-star Hilton Hotel of Malta, daily breakfast at the Hilton and buffet lunch at the Portomaso Casino, shuttle service to/from the airport and hotel, admittance to the BOM VIP party, access to the exclusive giveaways and side events, plus $500 cash to cover travel expenses.
You can visit PokerListings: Battle of Malta to gather more information, purchase a Battle of Malta package for €1400 or pay the €550 buy-in to register. Best of luck to Daniel Cates and all other participants in the upcoming event.
