Against the Odds: Big Hands from Sunday

It may have only lasted 50 minutes with just a small ($9,000) profit for Patrik Antonius, but the Challenge’s early Sunday session did have a few monster pots and big suck outs. Let’s take a closer look at two of the biggest hands of the day. The first one was a hefty suck-out in durrrr’s favor while the second was the only $100K plus pot of the day that helped to put Patrik up on the day:

durrrr rivers a straight for $63K

Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 2 players

durrrr (BTN/SB): $48399.50
Patrik Antonius (BB): $31600.00

Pre Flop: ($600.00)
durrrr raises to $1200, Patrik Antonius raises to $3600, durrrr calls $2400

Flop: ($7200.00) 3h 5d 6h (2 players)
Patrik Antonius checks, durrrr bets $4800, Patrik Antonius raises to $21600, durrrr raises to $44799.50 all in, Patrik Antonius calls $6400 all in

Turn: ($63200.00) Ks (2 players – 2 are all in)

River: ($63200.00) 9c (2 players – 2 are all in)

Final Pot: $63200.00
durrrr shows Jh As 8h 7s (a straight, Nine high)
Patrik Antonius shows Ah Qh Ac 7d (a pair of Aces)
durrrr wins $63199.50
(Rake: $0.50)

Both players were dealt quality starting hands with durrrr holding double suited and connected cards to Patrik’s aces. Unfortunately for durrrr, both players were suited in hearts with Patrik holding the ace of hearts. It was a great flop for both players. Patrik had the nut flush draw and an overpair to the board while durrrr was open-ended with a jack high flush draw. However, because they shared the same flush draw, durrrr was actually the 3 to 1 dog when they got it all-in on the flop. The king on the turn was a great card for Patrik and left durrrr with only a 15% chance to take the pot. He managed to hit one of the non-heart fours or nines to make his straight on the river to take the early lead in the short session.

Patrik takes the biggest pot of the day

Final Pot: $115794.00
Patrik Antonius shows Tc Jd 8c 8h (a flush, Ten high)
Patrik Antonius wins $115793.50
(Rake: $0.50)

This hand occurred towards the end of the short session and was the only six-figure pot of the day. Patrik took the lead in this hand before the flop and continued his aggressive betting by potting it on the flop and turn. Antonius flopped a flush draw, which hit on the river and he moved all-in for just under half the size of the pot. durrrr mucked his hand and the ten-high flush was good enough for the pot. It also helped to erase the hole Patrik dug himself in early on and basically got him back to even on the day.

Play continued a little longer after this big hand before durrrr decided he was too tired to play and headed for bed.
