Hand Analysis from Latest Session

We finally got to see some action in the Durrrr Challenge. Hopefully this is the start of what will be a ton of sessions to close out the year, as both Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates have expressed an interest in getting this leg of the challenge done quickly. Let’s take a look at two critical hands from this past session, which saw Dwan take back a very small percentage of his lost bankroll.

Analysis

durrrr was on the button and first to act with 8-7 suited. Dwan made the predictable raise and called JungleMan12’s pre-flop 3bet. The flop came J-5-6 with two spades and one club. We know that JungleMan12 held pocket tens and was ahead on this flop with second pair, but Dwan held an open-ended straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. At this point in the hand, Cates had a solid 65-35% equity lead in the hand. JungleMan12 c-bet about half of the pot, most likely to induce a bluff or semi-bluff shove from Dwan. Dwan, on the other hand, was looking at the board thinking that JungleMan12 would fold to a shove with just about anything but an overpair, set, the nut flush draw, or hands like 9-9 and 10-10. The money went in on durrrr’s end and JungleMan12 made the call for a $56,985 pot, which durrrr won when he spiked a nine on the river for the winning straight.

Analysis

JungleMan12 was on the button holding pocket kings for a monster, while Dwan held 6-3 offsuit for one of the worst possible pre-flop holdings in heads-up No Limit Hold’em. Pre-flop, this marked a 74-26% equity edge for JungleMan12. Cates just min-raised, which induced a 3bet from durrrr. Cates then 4bet his hand. At this point, it’s a little suspect why durrrr would call a 4bet out of position with 6-3 offsuit given that we’ve not seen much 4betting pre-flop from either player so far. Fortunately, it’s poker, which means that any hand can hit a monster flop, and Dwan luckboxed his way to a 3-6-6 dream flop for a full house. On the flop, durrrr check-called a small c-bet from Cates and then check-called a large turn c-bet as well. Durrrr smartly stayed patient on the river, when JungleMan12 shoved when checked to. durrrr insta-called with the winning full house. It was really a cooler for Cates, who probably put durrrr on a weaker pocket pair.
