Hand Analysis from March 8th Session

There have been two micro sessions played between Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan in the past couple of days. We’re hoping this is a precursor to a long session, but for now, we will take a look at two of the more significant pots played during the 364-hand session on Monday. Yet again, we saw Dwan increase his lead.

Analysis

Both players started out with pretty strong hands pre-flop. Durrrr made a raise and Antonius made a customary 3bet, which has been standard issue during the challenge. Not standard were a 4bet by Dwan and a 5bet by Antonius. This is atypical for both players, who have usually just called, even with their monster hands. The 6-7-Q two-club flop gave Antonius an open-ended straight draw and an overpair with his kings. Meanwhile, Dwan had the same straight draw plus a connected card for even more possibilities. With $64,800 in the middle, Antonius made a pot-sized bet to put Dwan all-in, which he called. At this point in the hand, Antonius was ahead 45% to 26%, with a 27% chance to chop the hand. A couple of sixes hit the board on the turn and river, giving Antonius the winning full house and a key $184,790 pot that minimized his losses during the session.

durrrr wins $149596.50

Analysis

In a rarity for the Durrrr Challenge, both players went all-in pre-flop. It’s hard not to blame either player given their hole cards. Dwan had 9-T-A-A double-suited, while Antonius couldn’t have shown up better with Q-Q-K-K. In a heads-up Omaha game, both of these hands are monsters, although huge drawing hands would have matched up well to them. At this point, though, Dwan was ahead 71% to 29%. Nevertheless, the 4-7-Q flop gave Antonius top set, while Durrrr had an overpair and the nut flush draw. The nine on the turn paired up Durrrr, but didn’t increase his outs. The five of clubs on the river filled the flush for Dwan, who reeled in a huge $149,596 pot.
