Analysis

The pre-flop action had durrrr on the button and flatting the 3bet from Antonius with a pretty decent hand in K-T-A-5 single suited while Patrik held 5-J-9-7 double suited for a mildly interesting drawing hand. The pre-flop advantage was with durrrr by a microscopic 53-47% edge.

The flop came Q-T-5 rainbow and gave durrrr a gutshot straight draw and 3rd pair while Antonius enjoyed the advantage with the open ended straight draw and bottom pair. Neither player really hit this flop hard, but Antonius came out firing with durrrr raising, which is a little surprising given the lack of combo draws. Given the number of improving cards Dwan could take without helping Antonius, he held a solid 71-29% advantage at the flop.

The four of spades came on the turn, and while not a gin card for either player, we see Antonius commit his stack with the bottom pair plus flush draw hand while durrrr put it all in with his hand unimproved. The advantage did improve for Antonius, who got his money in really bad against Dwan as a 67-33% underdog. The river Jack wasn’t an out for Antonius, who held two pair as Dwan improved to the winning straight.

Analysis

With Patrik Antonius on the button we see him make the raise and flatting the 3bet from Dwan, although Dwan does have a much better hand with a 62-38% advantage. The flop gave interest to both players with the Q-3-8 two clubs showing. With his top pair plus gutshot draw durrrr led out in betting but was raised by Antonius who was drawing to the nut flush and was flatted. At this point in the hand, it was a total 50-50 coin flip with no advantage being held by either player.

The turn of the three of spades improved durrrr to a flush draw while Antonius didn’t improve his hand. Despite this, it seems that durrrr was trapping, and he was able to get action on his all-in through the check-raise. The call here by Antonius is a little curious since he only held what he had to figure to be 9 outs, which may not even have been good if durrrr already had the boat. Clearly, Dwan figured that if he showed weakness at the turn, Antonius would show great strength and bluff at the pot. After Antonius made his big turn bet, it was an automatic all-in for Dwan. Given the roughly $150k in the pot, the remaining $3,198 was a no brainer to draw to whatever outs Antonius might have had.

The river is where the pendulum swung in favor of Antonius as the King of clubs nailed the flush. Unfortunately for Dwan his draw and hand didn’t hold up as Antonius, yet again, manages to hit his outs and overcome the 75-25% disadvantage.
