Analysis For 2 Hands from 10/1

The Durrrr Challenge tables have only seen tumbleweeds over the last few weeks, as Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan have dragged this competition out further than anyone thought possible. On October 1st, there was finally a session with the Challenge all but tied after almost half of the hands were played. After a solid session, Durrrr was back in the lead with $235,000 after 23,500 hands played. Let’s take a look at two key hands from the session.

Analysis

On the big blind, Durrr had pocket aces with A-A-J-8 suited to clubs with one of the aces. This is a powerhouse hand heads-up in Pot Limit Omaha, especially in a historically aggressive game. Dwan’s foe had an decent hand with 9-9-3-2 suited to spades and decided to call the 3bet pre-flop to $2,400. The flop was 7-A-9 with two hearts, giving Dwan a set of aces and a gutshot to a straight with any 10 and a redraw to the nut flush. To say that Dwan flopped well would be a massive understatement. Antonius, unfortunately, also flopped a set and needed running cards for a straight. We’ve seen both of these guys played flopped sets strong and the money went in right away. With a 93% to 7% lead in the hand, Durrrr held up for a sick $240,000 pot.

Analysis

This time around, it was Antonius on the big blind having the huge hand with 5-6-7-8 suited to hearts. Dwan held 3-4-4-9 suited to hearts, but higher with the 9 for a potentially dangerous situation for Antonius. Per the norm, the button raised, the big blind 3bet, and the button called. The flop came 7-4-K rainbow and gave the set to Durrrr. Antonius had a massive straight draw and bet out for not quite pot; he was flatted by Dwan. It’s interesting to see that when there was a flush redraw, Dwan put the pedal to the metal with his set, but this time around without the flush draw and unlikely straight draws, he simply flatted behind. The turn was the ace of spades and Antonius led out again, with Durrrr raising to put Antonius all-in. With the pot at $56,393 (taking back Dwan’s excess stack which he shoved in), Antonius had about $18,000 behind, making the call pretty standard. Dwan held the 70% to 30% advantage in the hand and held up to take a $93,500 pot and the lead for the challenge.
